Artist Proof Studio provides a weekly venue for a small women’s income-generating initiative. The group called Ikageng (Building Ourselves) was originally part of a multi-faceted outreach programme linked to the Paper Prayers HIV/AIDS Advocacy initiative. Ikageng consists of five previously unemployed women who came together in 2002 when invited to attend a basic embroidery and craft workshop hosted by the Creative Inner City Initiative. Over the course of 13 years, the self-employed women participate in a range of initiatives and exhibit their unique felt toys and narrative panels in many craft fora.

Ikageng products are sold directly through APS and are available at selected retail stores around the country.  In 2015, Ikageng will be working with a selection of APS printmakers in developing embroidered artworks to be exhibited at a show at ABSA later this year.
